The BIM Measurement Information Requirements (MIR) by the Quantity Surveying Division of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) is a document designed to standardize the information needed for quantity surveying tasks within Building Information Modeling (BIM) projects. Launched in December 2022, it aims to enhance communication between quantity surveyors, designers, and modelers by specifying the necessary data for accurate quantity takeoff (QTO) and cost management12.

The MIR serves two main purposes:

  1. Effective Communication: It acts as a communication tool to ensure that all parties involved in a BIM project understand the information requirements for quantity surveying.
  2. Guidance for Quantity Surveyors: It provides guidelines for quantity surveyors on how to work with BIM models to extract the necessary data for their tasks2.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to digitize and standardize construction processes, making them more efficient and collaborative1.
